XFP Transceiver

XFP modules (10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable) are hot- pluggable and protocol-independent. XFP Transceiver can use dense wavelength-division multiplexing technologies. XFP Transceiver includes digital diagnostics that provide management that were added to the SFF-8472 standard. XFP modules usually use an LC fiber connector type.

The physical dimensions of the XFP transceiver are a little bit larger than the SFP transceiver. The XFP module packaging was smaller than the XENPAK. Some suppliers supported both, or the XENPAK follow-on called XPAK and X2 transceiver module.
